Field Trip and Certificate Presentation

June 13 2017

In recognition of students's hard work, they were provided with a 4R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot-Compost) field trip to their local transfer station and material recovery facility.

The classroom was also awarded with a Green Star Schools Classroom Certificate.

Summary

Due to the students' hard work to green their classroom, they attended a field trip sponsored by the County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability to see how the Shoreway Environmental Center in San Carlos (run by RethinkWaste.org) processes the waste, compost and recyclables that they receive from the students' homes. It was a wonderful culminating activity and students learned a great deal. It really provided them with an inspiring insight as to why we do what we do to reduce landfill waste. As a result, students were intrigued and motivated to continue striving to be green!

The classroom was also awarded a Green Star Schools Classroom Certificate for all their hard work. The certificate was presented to the class by a representative from the County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability.
