Conserving Energy and Reducing Phantom Electricity Loads

CO2e reduction calculations were based on the reduction and prevention of computers and monitors from using phantom loads. 

Summary

Students completed the following tasks:

  1. Students performed energy assessments of their classrooms and library. using draft detectors, Kill-A-Watt Meters, light meters, and laser thermometers.
  2. Students created posters and labels for computers, lights, and electronics reminding folks to turn equipment and lights off and conserve heat and energy.
  3. Students developed a system for monitoring classrooms ensure students and teachers turn of lights and electronics when not in use.

4.70652 kiloWatt hours of Electricity Conservation between May 1st 2014 and June 6th 2014
Results: 2 lbs CO2e emmissions avoided
