Waste Free Wednesdays and the Weekly Green Ticket Raffle

June 5 2020

The Ortega Eco Ambassadors (aka the Green Team) take on single use waste in the cafeteria with their Waste Free Wednesday and Green Ticket Weekly Raffle!

Summary

The Green Team decided they wanted to help educate their fellow students about how to reduce single use plastic in their lunches. They gave a cafeteria speech to explain about their new Waste Free Wednesday campaign. Twice a week (Wednesday and a mystery day), members of the green team would go into the cafeteria during lunch and pass out green tickets to people who had a completely waste free lunch. These tickets were entered into a weekly raffle to win reusable gifts like stainless steel straws.

For students who get lunch at school every day, there was another option! Students could also pick up 20 pieces of garbage around school and trade that in for a green ticket for the raffle too. This was very popular, and students started cleaning up the campus all the time to earn raffle tickets. Ortega is making more and more sustainable choices!
