Energy Conservation Campaign and Reducing Phantom Electricity Loads

July 28 2016

CO2e reduction calculations were based on the reduction and prevention of the classroom computer and monitor from using phantom loads.

Summary

The students completed the following tasks:

  1. Students performed an energy assessment of their classroom using draft detectors and Kill-A-Watt Meters, which was facilitated by a team of 7th graders at the school.
  2. Students created and posted signage reminding fellow students to turn off lights and put electronics to sleep to reduce phantom loads of electricity.
  3. Students reviewed classroom energy assessment and revisited actions that they took at home and school to conserve energy and heat. They celebrated those efforts during an Earth Day assembly.

Metrics

2.73728 kiloWatt hours of Electricity Conservation between April 15th 2013 and June 7th 2013
Results: 1 lbs CO2e emmissions avoided
